The Convocation of the Royal University had a very stormy

meeting in Dublin on Wednesday, at which the Parnellites Consols were on Friday 1004 to 101. made a determined effort to get one of their members nominated to the Senate of the University, but failed. Lord Emly, who was in the chair, had to veto repeated motions for adjournment, made for the purpose of raising a discussion as to the Nationalist claims. It is a matter of considerable importance to the Nationalists to get some of their own body on to the Senate, in order that the Royal University may not come to terms with the British Government on the subject of education. The Nationalists desire to keep all the questions between the Government and the Irish people open until the question of Home-rule is settled in the way they prefer. Not so, however, think the graduates of the Royal University, whose voting- papers resulted in a disastrous defeat for the Nationalist candidate.
