Honest Oswald

From Mr Rupert S. Mynah Sir: Mr Paul Johnson knows that Oswald Mosley consistently put his political propos- als clearly, frankly and openly to the people (when allowed to do so). But they never Included British submergence in a state run by Hitler (And another thing, 23 October).

From 1932 to 1939 Mosley advocated a completely self-contained British Empire, strong enough to defend itself but refusing to interfere in external conflicts. When his Opponents risked occupation by declaring War with arms insufficient not only to res- cue Poland but also to guarantee protection of our own islands, Mosley urged a negoti- ated peace 'with Britain safe, Empire intact and Forces undefeated' and his supporters to join him, if the Nazis invaded, in `fight- ing to the finish' against them. Faced with the loss of India and rise of Russia, he advocated from 1947 onwards a Policy in which Britain would take the lead in uniting Europe with Southern Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Canada in another self-contained system. Its common administration, based on multiparty elec- tions, would supervise general economic development and defence against commu- nism, while each member state would enjoy legal, social and cultural autonomy.

All this is on public record in his numer- ous books, articles, speeches and inter- views. `He cannot hurt you now', so why do the lies about him, his family and his fol- lowers get worse?
