THE UNIVERSITIES.

OXFORD.

Dcc.31.—On Thursday, the followingdegrees were conferred. Doctor ta Dirinity—Rev.E. Cardwell, Camden's Professor Ancient history; Grand Componuder—Masters of Arts — Rev. C. 0. Mayne, Student of Christ Church ; Rev. R. Fawsett, Lincoln : Rev. C. Holder, Trinity—Bachelors of Arts—W. Rayer, St. Mary hall; D. Brent, University College.

The Rev. Dr. Cardwell was admitted, and installed Principal of St. Alban Hall.

On Saturday last, Messrs. W. Smith, E. F. Talbot, the Hon. J. Bruce, and C. A. Pal- mer, were elected Students of Christ Church. On the same day, II. Wooleombe, W. L. Hussey, H. B. Mayne, and R. R. Anstiee, who were elected from Westminster in May last, were admitted Actual Stu(1ents.

On Monday last, the Rev. E. Hawkins. M.A., of Balliol College, and one of the Sub. Librarians of the Bodleian Library, was .leeted Fellow of Exeter College The Rev. Dr. Stocker, late Fellow of St. John's College, is appointed Vice-Principal of St. Alban Hall.
