Clanship and the Clans. By H. M. Towry. (Edinburgh: Grant.)—

We question Mr. Towry's opening statement : "The rise of clanship in the Highlands, may be traced from 1066, when Malcolm Canmore removed the seat of government to the Lowlands." Clanship is a form. of the tribal system, which is certainly much older than Malcolm Can- more. The details about the names, badges, and chiefs of the clans have been collected from standard works on the subject, and will probably serve well enough the purpose for which they are intended, the use of tho English tourist in the Highlands.
