On Friday week Madar Lal Dhingra was tried at the

Central Criminal Court before the Lord Chief Justice and sentenced to death for the murder of Sir Curzon Wyllie and Dr. Lalcaca at the Imperial Institute. When asked if he had anything to say, Dhingra answered :—" I have told you over and over again that I do not acknowledge the authority of the Court. You can do whatever you like. I do not mind at all. You can pass sentence of death on me. I do not care. But remem- ber that one day we shall be all-powerful, and then we can do what we like. That is all I want to say." After sentence had been passed Dhingra, making an Oriental salute to the Judge, said:—" Thank you, my Lord. I don't care. I am proud to have the honour of laying down my life for the cause of my country." Mr. Tindal Atkinson was then allowed to make a short statement on behalf of Dhingra's family, who wished their horror at the crime and their repudiation of all Dhingra's motives to be recorded.
