The Berwickshire election, which took place on Thursday, resulted in

the return of Mr. Tennant, the Home-rule candi- date, by a majority of 565. He polled 2,722 votes, and his opponent, Mr. Balfour, 2,157. In 1892, Mr. Marjoribank's majority was 748. The total Home-rule poll was then 2,704, and the Unionist, 1,956. From these figures it is clear that Home-rule is stationary in Berwickshire, but that the Union-

lets have grown somewhat stronger. The Montgomery elec- tion has resulted in the return of Mr. Owen, the Home- ruler, by a majority of 235. In 1892, Mr. Rendel (Home- ruler), polled 3,662 votes against Captain Mytton (Unionist),. 2,847,—majority, 815.
