The story is neither a novel nor can it be taken as authentic history ; and, although it is impossible to make the life of Queen Elizabeth dull, the author constantly destroys the interest of her readers by raising in their minds the question, "Is this an accurate statement or is it invented for the purpose of the novel ? "
