The Boat Race last Saturday was one of the best

struggles there have been. Cambridge were slight favourites, but under the coaching of Mr. Harcourt Gold Oxford had come on more rapidly in the week before the race than most people had noticed. On the day's performance Oxford deserved to win, but the rowing of Cambridge over the last mile was a memorable perform- ance. Cambridge had a comparatively dead period in the middle of the race when Oxford gave them the slip, but at the end Cambridge were coming up fast and they gained more than a length after Barnes Bridge. It was noticeable that Cambridge kept their form to the end and in the final spurt were swinging better and keeping better time than Oxford. It is not often that this can be said of the losing crew.
