HALIFAX BUILDING SOCIETY.

It is difficult not to be impressed by the figures which to. day express the activities of some of our leading Building Societies, and the statements made at the recent annual meeting of the Halifax Building Society by the President, Sir Enoch Hill; were of a quite remarkable character. During the past five years,- and since the amalgamation with the kindred Society, this concern has doubled in size and at the close of last year the total assets amounted to no less than £88,500,000, establishing a record increase of nearly £11,000,000 over the previous year. Of the many interesting observations made by Sir Enoch, probably none, however, was more impressive and more calculated to convey an idea of the scope of the Society's business than his statement that one in every hundred individuals in Great Britain is now directly associated with the Society.
