The Care of a House. By T. M. Clark. (Macmillan

and Co 16s. 6d. net.)—Let it be observed that it is a " house "—i.e., the building, not the " household"—about which Mr. Clark discourses. In other words, this is not a book about domestic economy, but about the management and care of dwellings. Mr. Clark is an American architect, and it may be necessary to bear this fact in mind while considering his suggestions. In the chapters on stoves and fireplaces the greatest differences will probably be found; but here, too, the difference may be suggestive. Generally, we should say that the book may profitably be studied by any one building or altering a house.
