BANKING IN SOUTH AMERICA.

With the recent absorption of the Anglo-South American Bank by the Bank of London and South America, the import- ance and influence of the latter Institution to the South American Continent, which was always very great, has still further increased and it is satisfactory to note that the combined Institution gives every indication of prosperity, while the figures of the Report indicate sound and conservative manage- ment. Moreover, interest in the latest Report was quickened by anxiety with regard to present conditions in Brazil, though even as regards that country the Report speaks by no means pessimistically.
