be desired. The conclusion at which Mr. Birch arrives—and it has a cer- tain importance, as connected with the antiquity and authority of the Athanasian Creed—is that it cannot be older than the beginning of the eighth centwy. The arguments on which this conclusion is based are of a technical kind, which it does not fall within our province to examine, but we may briefly express our admiration for the skill and industry with which Mr. Birch has executed his work.
