It is with deep regret that we record the death

of the Duke of Fife, which took place at Assuan on Monday from pleurisy. There is something particularly tragic in the fact that the Duke, after escaping from the immediate dangers of the wreck of the ' Deihl,' should have succumbed to its indirect results. The Duke was born in 1849, and was thus in his sixty-third year. In 1889 (when still Earl of Fife) he married Princess Louise, the eldest daughter of King Edward. Although in his earlier life he took part in politics, and sat in succession in both Houses of Parliament, in his later years he bad but a small share in public life. Every one will feel the greatest sympathy with the Royal Family in the personal loss they have sustained.
