Traffic in London London traffic problems are bringing the Minister

for Transport under criticism on several sides. Of the 38 specific proposals for new or improved routes within the County of London made in the Bressey report three schemes, two of which were to cost £18,25o,000, were selected for prior treatment, and the Minister of Transport was asked by the London County Council to make a grant higher than 6o per cent. The Minister however sees no prospect of being able to comply with this request and the L.C.C. has been recommended by the Highways and Finance Com- mittee to " express regret " that in the circumstances it cannot carry out the three selected schemes in a limited period. So traffic chaos must continue indefinitely.
