Test Trial

It is sad that the match 'Champion County v. The Rest' has disappeared from the cricket calendar. The reasons were obvious enough: the season, except for festival cricket, was over, some of the best players were not available, football had come into its own again, and so the attendances were poor and the interest low. Could it not be played in the first month of the following season? The Champions could fly their pennant at Lord's or the Oval, and the match would be the highspot of what is usually a dull opening cricket month. It could and should then be used as a Test trial by the selectors. Might it not by this transfer and promotion find something of its old glory? "
