Sir: While Tabitha Troughton CI made my excuses and left', 19 June) is correct in say- ing that 'escorts' are warned against wear- ing perfume, clackety shoes and dressing like tarts, by far the most important advice given to girls when they start work concerns what to do when and if they resume normal life.

As an Australian doing escort work here to pay for a law study course, I was wel- comed by agencies because I intend to return home when qualified. Girls are warned that remaining in a city or locality where they have had regular clients can be very difficult when they marry.

'Wipe that smile off your mind.'

Incidentally, it is misleading for Miss Troughton always to refer to 'girls'. Agen- cies receive many requests for mature women — one agency I worked for near Heathrow employed ladies with an age range of 19 to 59.
