May loth, the writer on motoring appears to have overlooked the fact that the severity of accidents must be largely proportional to the energy of the vehicles involved. The energy of a moving body varies as the square of the speed. It follows that by reducing the speed from 3o m.p.h. to 25 m.p.h. we reduce the energy in question by more than 3o per cent., which cannot be said to be a very small reduction.—Yours, &c.,
