Parents who are looking for cheaper books of a high

quality for the very young should bear in mind the Puffin slogan, 'There is Nuffin' Like a Puffin.' Ponder and William, by Barbara Softly (Penguin, 3s. 6d.), is a new Young Puffin Original. Ponder is a Pyjama-case Panda who has a marvellous time when William comes to stay. The stories and poems are all short enough to hold the attention of very young listeners, and are about the seaside, picnics, feeding ducks. making and eating currant cake (and falling into the mixture). to mention only a few. The illus- trations bs Diana John, although not in colour, are clear and lively and will be enjoyed by all who share Ponder's adventures.
