Sir: In the penultimate paragraph for Lear as the author

of "Why do you walk through the field in gloves" read Frances C. Cornford in her poem To a fat lady seen from the train.' This is an old favourite of mine.

My congratulations on the continued excellence of The Spectator. On the change of editorship I feared it was faltering but now, having arrived at the right formula, I look forward to reading its comments and reviews, especially those of Auberon Waugh, each week.
