"Soft and bright the Gems of Night ;" a Ballad.

By H. SMART.

It gives us sincere pleasure to be able to speak in decided commen- dation of the first essay that has fallen under our notice of the son of HENRY SMART, a man who was known only to be beloved and re- spected. There is not much pretension in this ballad, but it bespeaks a cultivated and correct taste. We would only suggest to the young author, that the accent is needlesy thrown in two instances on the word "to."
