Lord John Russell was elected today without opposition. He was

proposed by Mr. H. J. Prescott, and seconded by Mr. J. Dillon. Mr. Stoner proposed Sir Charles Napier, but no seconder came forward. After the election, on the motion of Mr. Samuel Morley, seconded by Mr. Ingram Travers, the meeting adopted a strong resolution recording the fact that they had elected Lord John in the hope that the Govern- ment will effectually grapple with and remove the causes of the disastrous Mismanagement of the war.

Sir Charles Wood addressed the electors of Halifax on Thursday even- ing. An unanimous vote of confidence was accorded by the meeting.
