extended use, electricity has failed to disturb the profits of gas companies. Not only have the reports; of eaeh- leading gascompany

published recently been of. a ry satisfacto character, but at the annual meetings the directors have been able to report i

a general increase in the consumption of gas. This was so at the meeting held this week of the Wandsworth, Wimbledon and Epsom District Gas Company, when the chairman was able to speak of records as regards consumption, while he also announced a further reduction in the price of gas. Moreover, "E' is evident, too, that the company is

facing with perfect equanimity the possibility of increased competition between gas and electricity, believing that there is scope for both.
