FIRST BAT OUT.

[To THE Ennou or THE "SPECTATOR."' SIR,—Perhaps I may be alloWed to supplement your corre- spondent's note on the appearance of a bat on the evening of , April 19th. I saw one flying about on the banks of the Seine, near the Pont Neuf, at about 2.30 p.m. on April l5tli: It was a very warm day and the sky cloudless. I paused to observe it, and it came within a few feet of me. Evidently it was searcning for food, but its time for doing so struck me as

being very unusual.—I am, Sir, &c., E. E. FREDERICK. The Wells House, Malvern Wells.
