Bring back Roy

Sir: I have been taking your paper for three years, mainly because of Roy Kerridge's articles, which I found were an essential ingredient of the ■ Spectator. That is why Wilfred De Ath's review of his book (13 October) shocked and upset me. It appeared to be making uncalled-for scorn- ful references to Roy Kerridge both as writer and personality. The whole review was clumsy and offensive. I have never met Roy Kerridge so I cannot speak for his character, but as a writer he is one of the most lucid and witty, so it is a shame he has not appeared in your periodical for so many weeks.

PLEASE BRING BACK ROY!
