The insurrection in Portugal has been for the present suppressed.

It was confined to the troops, and they seemed to be disunited. When the soldiers suspected that their leaders were about to desert them and take refuge in Spain, they shot their commander, and laid down their arms in submission to the Queen's frees. The spirit of discontelit is not quelled, though its exhibition is stifled. The present calm may be considered as only temporary.
