Sales Attici ; or, the Maxims, Witty and Wise, of

Athenian Tragic Drama. Collected, arranged, and paraphrased. By D'Arcy Wentworth Thompson. (Edmonston and Douglas.)—This work consists of short passages selected from -Eschylns, Sophocles, and Euripides, arranged under appropriate heads, and faced by English equivalents on the alter- nate pages. Sometimes the juxtaposition is so happy that we are sur- prised at its not occurring in the original author. At other times the coincidence between the Greek tragedians themselves, or between one of them and some later poet, is so remarkable as to deserve a note, and to make us regret that it has received no such attention. But Mr. Thompson has done something towards marking these coincidences of thought by the language employed in his paraphrases.
