The Fall of the Confederacy. By John Baker Hopkins. (W.

Free- man.)-This is an able little book, and, better still, it is studiously moderate. The main objection to it is that it is wise after the event, and is given to predicting what has happened already. Yet we cannot but recognize the good sense of much of Mr. Hopkins' reasoning, and we are pleased with his impartiality.
