It is with the greatest regret that we chronicle the

death of Sir Charles Hawtrey, the famous comedy actor. It is no business of the artist to consider whethsr his art is good or bad for the corporate body of the artists of his profession. It was no concern of Sir Charles Hawtrcy's if the type of play which was evolved round his per- sonality was not always artistically a success. No one who remembers his delicious performance in, say, Genera. John Regan will doubt that he was entirely justified it pursuing his own course. His work was in the true tradition of English humour.
