THE "IN MEMORIAM" METRE.

[TO THE EDITOR OF THE "SPECTATOR."] SIR,—The poem, in a metre now and for ever consecrated as the peculiar property of Tennyson, which Dr. Garnett repub- lishes for the second time from the "Luttrell Ballads" in the Spectator of January 28th, is the second chorus in Ben Jonson's tragedy of Catiline, very slightly altered by the adaptation of a few lines to English instead of Roman politics, religion, and history,—I am, Sir, &c., A, C. SWINEERNE.
