Until last week the Liberal Party in Nova Scotia had

been in power for forty-three years, but in the elections to the Provincial House of Commons three Liberals were returned and forty Conservatives. The Labour Party fared very badly. Mr. Rhodes, a Conservative lawyer and former Speaker, is forming a new Govern- ment. This political bouleoersement seems to us to indicate a healthy dissatisfaction with the political conditions, brought about by the long undisturbed power of one party. It also shows a determination to tolerate no longer the strikes—particularly in the Cape Breton coal mines—which have done so much harm to the Province. It is also probably a protest against the Dominion Government over what the Maritime States believe to be unfair treatment received at its hands.
