The Derby

The Derby was won last Wednesday by Mr. Walls' April the Fifth, who, with others, beat the hottest favourite since the late Lord Rosebery's Cicero won. This was Orwell, known through his two-year-old career as Mr. Singer's Golden Hair colt by Gainsborough. We can only repeat what we wrote last year, that much of the pleasure, if not the interest, of the race has again been spoilt for real lovers of the thoroughbred and of racing by the unhealthy excitement, unhappily exploited by the Press, over the Irish so-called " Hospitals " Sweepstakes.
