Thursday's French communique shows that the French have been pushing

on well into terrain north-east of Lea Bceufs and in the direction of Transloy. In this context we may note that the final reckoning of the prisoners in the great French victory at Verdun runs to a most satisfactory figure—i.e., over six thousand unwounded men, including one hundred and thirty-eight officers. The material captured included fifteen guns, five of which were heavy pieces, fifty-one trench guns, and one hundred and forty-one machine guns.
