NEWS OF THE WEEK.

THE three principal events of the week have been, first, the marked declension of Mr. Lloyd George's political star ; secondly, the steady increase in the support and confidence given to Mr. Bonar Law and his Administration ; thirdly, the overthrow of the Labour Party at the Municipal Polls. Mr. Lloyd George is evidently beginning to find that he made a great mistake in taking a sword in his hand and defying all who had withdrawn their support from him, or who would not immediately come back to heel. That arrogant note has been dropped, and instead Mr. Lloyd George has tried the pathetic note. He and his friends have been asking what was the cause of the fall of the Ministry— what change of general policy was required ? His policy and that of the new Government are the same. Why, then,1 was it necessary to split the Party and dissolve the Coalition ?
