CHRISTOPHER CHATAWAY asked Mr. Crossman in a television interview the

other night if Labour's plan to pay differential pensions, based upon previous earnings, was not a departure from the pure Socialist doctrine of 'from each according to his ability to each according to his needs.' Mr. Crossman repudiated the suggestion, saying 'people acquire needs.' All needs are necessary but some needs are more necessary than others.
