A most unfortunate strike broke out on Monday amongst the

builders at the British Empire Exhibition at Wembley. It was an unofficial one, not supported by the Builders' Union. The strikers demanded 2d. an hour extra, their opportunity being that the contractors had promised to finish the work by April 25th and that any delay was likely to make it impossible for them to do so. Thus the strike is almost undisguised industrial blackmail On Tuesday violent forms of terrorism were used on the other workers who wished to continue their jobs, and police protection had to be provided. Four hundred police were on duty on Wed- nesday morning, and it is hoped that all the workers who wish to carry on will be enabled to do so.
