Evening Opening of the National Gallery The extension of the

hours of opening at the National Gallery till 8 o'clock on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is a valuable addition to the amenities of London. It is only after working hours that the mass of the working people have opportunities to visit museums ; and since the sole value of pictures lies in their being seen, the extension increases the value of the national collection. Mr. Kenneth Clark is to be congratulated on winning this advantage, which will of course cost money. It may be hoped that he will prevail yet further, so that the Gallery may be kept open till ten.
