The tobacco people have generously spon- sored two races at Sandown this Saturday— their Handicap Chase and Hurdle. The former brings out at least half a dozen top chasers. Into View. should win on looks but is, I think, being asked to carry too much weight in the company of such as Even Keel, Straight Fort and New Romney, who. bar- ring accidents, should all he there at tly!fmish. I am. however looking further down the handicap for this week's selection, namely to Chatham. a surprise, though convincing, winner of the Mackeson Gold Cup after a long absence from the racecourse: on that and past form he is very favourably treated. In the accompanying Hurdle, Moyne Royal wwild annear a 'good thing' on the strength of his Ackermann Skeaping victory here last month—his unlucky loss against Cala Mes- quida at Ascot cannot really be held against him.

I take him to beat the field with the improv- ing Sharavogue as a more profitable saver.
