The Street with Seven Houses. By Silvia Brett. (Hodder and

Stoughton. 6s.)—This is a very charming series of short stories taking as their theme seven houses in a particular street. The author of course contrives that no commonplace people who live ordinary everyday lives should inhabit her street at all, and, indeed, the romantic incidents and ideas within this small area are remarkable. The stories all have a tendency to sadness, but they are pleasantly written, and the last one at any rate ends as well as possible.
