Juliette's Weekly Frolic

All those wise and faithful men who have religiously followed this column's advice over the past eight weeks will now be £33.95 the richer, duly grateful I trust.

Happily, for me, Sandown's programme is splendid enough to throw a little more light than usual on the likely participants this weekend. Last year's Gainsborough Chase saw The Dikler a hot, but eclipsed, favourite, and while, I would not go so far as to predict a similar fate for Irish ace, Leap Frog this Friday, it would be more fun to take an interest in his compatriot, Glencaraig Lady. She does after all, receive 51b and would conceivably have beaten him at levels in the Gold Cup. The combined horror of snow, fog and power cuts should do wonders for the 'Whisky mac' trade on Saturday, where Stones, the ginger wine people put up an extra £1,000 for their hotly competitive 24 mile chase. Titus Oates being a risky starter in these conditions and Royal Relief — whom I have loyally and vainly supported for much of this season — is all the rage in the ' Sundays' — everyone clearly knows something I don't, but be that as it may, few know much about the young Irish mare, Farranfore except that she came from nowhere to steal a rich hurdle prize on Saturday. Her last effort over the bigger obstacles back in early November, saw her give Colebridge 121b and a length beating, which is interesting enough form for a gamble at lOst 71b. To get my hand in at mid-week puntering a small flutter on consistent Albury Heath in the Boveney 'Chase could be mildly lucrative. National stalwarts, Limeburner and Bowgeeno reappear but may be out of practice.

Assets: £133.95. Outlay: £.3 to win Glencaraig Lady and Farronfore, E2 ew Albury Heath.
