Sir: The relevance of Biblical quotations to problems in Britain

escapes me. Christianity was probably the main driving force behind the remarkable expansion of Western civilisation.

Not infrequently the Christians' message was transmitted with the aid of gunpowder and it was followed by medical science and the consumer society. The prospect is now one of global over-population and pollution, not to mention increasing violence and the three-day week in Britain. Can anyone seriously deny that Christians are even now doing more harm to life on this planet than all the heathens and atheists from Genghis Khan to Idi Amin Dada ever hoped to do?

Father, forgive them for they know not what they do! Not even after 1,973 years of failure?
