A BUMPER YEAR.

At the Annual Meeting of the'-General Electric Company Lord Hirst submitted Accounts showing net profits exceeding those of the best year the Company had ever experienced. The Chairman of the General' Electric attributed these con- ditions to three main causes, namely, better conditions its the country generally, which have increased purchasing power, better export' business, and, finally, improvements within the electrical industry: With regard to the exports Lord Hirst said that for the first time South Africa had taken the lead as the Company's best market. In the course of his , speech Lord Hirst paid a tribute to the part played by the National Government in considering the needs of British industry and creating additional employment, and in particular he urged., the GOvernment to continue their efforts to encourage suburban elecY11194:09,11 , A.
