A revolution diary

Sir: It is well known that English is a secret language. Any foreigner who dares to criticise Miss Nancy Mitford, our most brilliant ex- ponent, would do well to spend time attempt- ing to learn the particular code she uses. L. Schwartz has failed to decipher either the name Cohn-Bandit or the champagne situation (Letters, 28 June). Poor thing! Clearly he also has still to learn what it is `to play cricket,' otherwise he would not have cheated by throwing the ball at Miss Mitford's sisters. English-speaking Francophils understood Miss Mitford perfectly, and it was refreshing to have a report of the revolution which was not from a casual correspondent, a committed com- munist or an impertinent, non-sporting type like L. Schwarz, whose name I blacken de- liberately.
