The British Museum library contains a valuable collection of some

eight thousand catalogues of English book auctions. A very large proportion of them are auctioneers' copies, carrying on interleaves the prices and purchasers' names for every lot. A List of Catalogues of English Book Sales (sold at the British Museum) has now been issued by the Trustees, with a prefatory note by Mr. A. W. Pollard. The period covered is from 1676—the date of the earliest English auction—down to the end of the nineteenth century. Students

of the history of book-collecUng. will be most grateful for this catalogue.
