The Sinn Fein rebels have been very active in County

Cork during the past week. Near Marmon], on Friday, February 25th, a strong patrol of auxiliary police was ambushed by a large force of rebels and compelled to retire ; the commander, Major Grant, and a constable were shot dead. Troops sent to the place failed to overtake the rebels, who took to the hills. In Cork cai Monday six rebels, five of whom had been caught in the act of preparing an ambush, were executed after con- viction by court-martial. Later in the day a number of unarmed soldiers walking in the streets were shot down by unknowir miscreants ; air soldiers were killed and six wounded. The streets were crowded, but no civilian tried to arrest the mur- derers. The same night some Sinn Feiners went to the Cork railway station and murdered a porter. At Gulbally, County Tipperary, some rebels preparing an ambush were surprised ; one was killed and two were taken.
