Last year at the general election, fought on universal adult suffrage, the Unionist Party, which is determined to maintain the Union, Polled 401,897; the Northern Ireland Labour and Liberal parties, which .claim to support the con- stitution, polled 120,121, and the Republican Party and others, which want an all-Ireland state, polled 116,306. That is a vote of over 80 per cent in favour of the constitutional position of Northern Ireland as an integral part of the United Kingdom.
