Rio Marro PROSPECTS.

At the recent annual meeting of the Rio Tinto Company the Chairman, Sir Auckland Geddes, was able to take a hopeful view of the company's prospects. His speech included a record of the company from what may be termed the mining method point of view, and Sir Auckland said that he felt justified in saying that as a result of 25 years' work in exposing the great breadth of the San Dionisio mass in the Atalaya Opencast, and as a result of their Rhodesian invest- ment, the company's production ofpyrites for export and of Copper, directly and indirectly, for the next 20 years could, if markets permitted, be considerably greater than the quantities annually marketed over the past 20 years. As to profits, Sir Auckland said that it was very largely a question of commodity prices, but he thought that in view of what he had brought before the shareholders the valuation of the mines in Spain at £4,250,000 was not excessive.
