St. Dunstan's Fair. By M. J. C. Lee. (National Society.)—

There is a very charming description of an old Kentish Manor- house in St. Dunstan's Fair, and the children who figure in it are spirited young creatures whose acquaintance we are glad to make. But the story is scarcely to our taste. The pretty Nancy jilts her lover George in the vain hope of attracting an admirer of a superior station. George enlists, strikes his officer, the admirer in question, deserts, and ultimately meets a soldier's death on the field of Waterloo. The children's part is to keep the deserter hidden away while he is seeking a last interview with his faithless sweetheart.
