The election of a Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, in succes-

sion to Dr. Wynter, takes place on Tuesday next. The candidate is Dr. Symons, President of St. John's College. The nomination by the Chancellor has usually been considered a matter of course ; but the Tractarians, whose doctrines are opposed by Dr. Symons, intend to try the effect of refusing their assent in Convocation ; and the most active exertions are made on either side, to oppose and support the candidate.
