THE BLACKSMITH'S STROKE

[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—Though no smith myself, I think I may say that if your correspondent, Mr. R. W. Baker, next time he is at a black- smith's, would himself try the hammer for a minute, he would quickly find the use both in rest and exactitude of the easy intermediate, rebounding musical stroke or strokes on the bare anvil.—I am, Sir, &c., Enton Thatch, near Godalming. PHILIP T. KENWAY.
