The state of the Money-market causes anxiety. The stock of

bullion in the Bank of England is very much reduced, and the ex- changes are unfavourable. The Bank is selling Exchequer Bills and heavy stock, for the purpose of contractinF the circulation : a process necessary for its own security, but painfully felt by those to whom the " screw " is applied.
